I was raised by my dad only... I would never call my dad on mother's day and say happy mother's day..even though my dad did my hair every day, we went shopping for my first bra together, and was the one a ran to when my cycle started. Which made him the ultimate dad not the ultimate mom.. there are somethings I still struggled with as a woman growing up..because my mother wasn't involved in my life growing up.

This is a great topic and a healthy conversion. I got married at 21 and I was in college at the time and I didnt change my last name and never changed it. My marriage lasted 13 years and we have 2 kids together.( they have his last name) If I were to get remarried now, I would take his last name.

This is the PROBLEM with Todd’s views: he keeps saying “you made a bad choice” (referring to the women having relations w/ bad men) - but what he fails to realize is WOMEN are not RESPONSIBLE for a MAN’S actions!! Regardless of the relationship, if a man deliberately decided not to be a PRESENT FATHER, 9/10 that’s not the fault of the woman. That woman has every right to give her baby HER last name.

The core issue is holding onto these outdated, cave man beliefs that it's solely the woman's job to nurture. IT'S NOT! Both men and women need to nurture as co-parents and lovers. Grown men should not be competing for their woman's attention/effort against their own damn kids. If a man feels his wife is not giving him enough attention and effort, then he's probably not doing enough in his role to nurture the children as the co-parent. Women are not superheros and only have so much time in the day.

I really like this a lot y'all are great and we're good together. On the real tip I understand exactly what Todd was saying because in every relationship that I was in, I catered to him even if the relationship didn't last.

You can tell from the way that Todd speaks that he believes Men are inherently above women, simply for being men. Thus, the man's legacy should come before the woman's. Why should the man have the honor of having a child with his surname, even though he didn't perform the responsibilities that are required of father? What legacy is a man carrying on if he hasn't contributed to raising the child? It's BS. Men and women stand on equal footing with equally valuable contributions. Once men stop trying so hard to be above women, the black community can recover with meaningful conversation. Jay -Z sees his woman as his equal and he respects her legacy. He gets it.
